The Fit-Up Welder is responsible for fitting, aligning, and tack-welding metal components according to blueprints and specifications prior to final welding. This role requires strong layout skills, attention to detail, and the ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings to ensure proper assembly and weld quality.
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
Measure, layout, and fit metal parts for proper alignment and assembly.
Use clamps, jigs, fixtures, and tack welds to secure components in place.
Perform tack welding to hold assemblies prior to final welding.
Verify dimensions, squareness, and tolerances before final weld.
Operate hand tools, grinders, cutting tools, and measuring instruments.
Collaborate with welders, supervisors, and inspectors to ensure quality standards are met.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with safety policies.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Proven experience as a Welder-Fitter or Fit-Up Welder.
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
Experience with MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding for tack welds.
Proficient with measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, squares).
Knowledge of metal fabrication techniques and materials.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Use of overhead crane
